PRESS RELEASE
Sydney, Australia

CleanSpace HALO, a reusable powered respirator, designed and manufactured in Australia, has won the ‘design quality’ and ‘innovative approach’ categories at the Red Dot Awards.

Leading Australian respiratory protection designer and manufacturer CleanSpace Technology, is delighted to announce its healthcare respirator, CleanSpace HALO, has won two highly-coveted awards at the prestigious 2021 Red Dot Awards for Product Design.

CleanSpace HALO is a Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) system designed specifically for the healthcare sector and houses smart technology in a revolutionary, compact design. The CleanSpace HALO delivers the highest protection in healthcare while being comfortable, quick to fit and easily integrated into any setting.

The international jury awarded CleanSpace HALO the distinction “Red Dot”, which stands for high quality design. Additionally, CleanSpace HALO took top honours in the “Smart/Innovative Products” category for its innovative approach, particularly in its connectivity features.

The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back as far as 1955 and recognises the best products for a given year. With more than 18,000 entries, the Red Dot Award is one of the world’s largest design competitions. This year, a record number of companies and design studios from around 60 countries worldwide took part in the competition.

This is the second year CleanSpace Technology has won a Red Dot Award, and comes only weeks after CleanSpace HALO won a Platinum Respiratory Protection Award at the OH&S Industrial Hygiene Awards – confirming the Australian brand’s continued leadership in innovative respiratory protection.

“The Red Dot Award has become established internationally as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design. As Australia’s only respiratory company, we’re honoured our respirator has been recognised on the global design stage. Most of all, we’re proud Australian-made respirators are protecting the lives of thousands of frontline healthcare workers globally,” said CleanSpace CEO Dr Alex Birrell.

When designing the respirator, Dr Birrell said the team of ex-ResMed biomedical engineers had a vision to revolutionise the way the healthcare sector thought about respiratory protection.

“We had a vision to deliver high-level protection in a comfortable, easy-to-use system. CleanSpace HALO can easily be donned in under ten seconds as it has no heavy belts or hoses, making it practical in hospital settings, and easily deployable in an emergency,” said Dr Birrell.

Red Dot founder and CEO, Professor Dr. Peter Zec said of the laureates, “The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 were particularly impressive this year. The design of their products is excellent, in terms of both the aesthetic and the functionality. It’s not easy to prevail in such a strong field of competitors and to win over our jury. Consequently, I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success.”
